General Information on obtaining your RA-Aus Pilot Certificate

Basic Requirements

To gain a student certificate the applicant must meet the same mediacl requirements required for an Australian driver's license. The applicant is responsible for maintaining their health to a standard required to operate an aircraft. The student must be 15 yrs of age to gain their Pilot Certificate however training can start at an earlier age.

Aeronautical Experience

In order to gain your Pilot Certificate, the minimum flight time requirement set by RA-Aus is 20 hrs. (15 hrs dual + 5 hrs solo) however each student is different and flying times may vary accordingly. Emphasis is placed on your safety. Student lessons vary to suit each individual’s situation. We suggest a minimum one lesson per week in order to gain your certificate in the most timely and cost efficient manner. Special pay in advance packages are offered for students selecting this option. If having previous flight experience, we offer conversion training depending on your level of experience. Ask us for more info.

Privileges

The basic RA-Aus certificate allows the pilot to fly up to 25 NM from their home base aerodrome. At Caloundra this includes other airfields namely Caboolture, Redcliffe and Noosa. You will also enjoy the picaresque sights of the Bribie Island region, Glass House Mountains  and the wonderful north western side of Moreton Island.  Various endorsements such as passenger carrying can be added to the basic certificate as the pilot gains more experience.

Cross Country Endorsement

To meet the requirements of an issue of a cross country endorsement the pilot must complete a minimum RA-Aus requirement of 10 hrs dual cross country training and a minimum of 2hrs solo cross country, pass a written navigation exam, meet the required standard  as specified in the RA-Aus syllabus and pass a flight test with the Chief Flying Instructor. If you are a converting PPL license holder or higher you are deemed to meet this requirement.
